Louis Vuitton New Bag Collection: Artycapucines, Explained
October 24, 2026 · 8 min read

The biggest Louis Vuitton new bag story this autumn is a series rather than a single model. Since 2019, Artycapucines has asked contemporary artists to reinterpret the Capucines, and at Art Basel Paris the house showed seven years of those bags beside the artworks behind them, according to Haute Living. It also previewed a Keith Haring collection of 13 limited-edition designs, which Schön! reports will reach stores from 1 January 2027.
What is Louis Vuitton's Artycapucines?
Louis Vuitton's Artycapucines is a series in which contemporary artists reinterpret the Capucines bag. It debuted in 2019, according to Haute Living. The artists work with Louis Vuitton's artisans and use the bag's structure as a starting point for painterly gestures, assemblage, portraiture and sculpture.
What makes the series interesting is the constraint. Each artist starts from the same bag, with its handle, flap and proportions, and the results move far from it. Some read as wearable paintings and some as small sculptures. Most are a conversation between the artist and the Capucines rather than a print laid over the top.
Which artists have designed an Artycapucines bag?
The artists named in coverage of the retrospective include Alex Israel, Urs Fischer, Sam Falls, Tschabalala Self, Henry Taylor and Takashi Murakami. Haute Living lists pairings such as Alex Israel's Cut-Out-Fin (Golden Hour), Urs Fischer's Fruits, Sam Falls's Western Wind and Tschabalala Self's Kitten. Henry Taylor's A Young Master represents the 2020 edition. Takashi Murakami's Monogramouflage Skull (Black) is shown with his 2025 Capucines XXL Camo.
Keith Haring now joins that list with a full collection of his own, which is covered in more detail below.
Seven years on the Balcon d'Honneur: the Art Basel Paris retrospective
Louis Vuitton, an Associate Partner of Art Basel Paris, unveiled the Artycapucines retrospective on the Balcon d'Honneur of the Grand Palais, according to Haute Living. The booth was open to the public from 23 to 25 October 2026.
The idea behind the display was simple and well judged. Each bag sat next to works by the artist who made it, so a visitor could read the bag as part of a practice rather than as a standalone object. Schön! describes the same arrangement: 14 artists, with their original works displayed alongside the bags they inspired.
"We have a dialogue between the art that inspired the bag and the bag that inspired the artist."
A booth built like a packing room
The scenography leaned on the house's history. Haute Living reports open crates, plinths and trunk-like structures in brushed aluminum and cotton canvas, a nod to Louis Vuitton's origins as a packer and trunk-maker. The retrospective also linked Artycapucines to the house's first artist collaboration, with Pierre Legrain in 1920. So the series is placed as the latest chapter in a long habit of working with artists, not a recent novelty.
The Louis Vuitton new bag collection: Keith Haring's 13 designs
The new chapter belongs to Keith Haring. Schön! reports that the Keith Haring Artycapucines collection has 13 limited-edition designs and was developed with the Keith Haring Foundation. At the booth, according to Haute Living, it was displayed beside a 1930s Louis Vuitton suitcase that Haring signed in the 1980s. The bags carry mini figures, dancers, a running heart and chains of decorative symbols.
Haring's visual language is one of the most recognisable of the last century, and it suits the Capucines in an unexpected way. The bag is composed and quiet, and his line is restless. The contrast is the point.
The designs named in coverage give a sense of the range:
| Design | Reported details |
|---|---|
| Capucines Nano Running Heart | A silver-toned evening bag covered in more than 12,000 hand-set crystals |
| Capucines East-West Mini Maze | Thousands of beads and traditional embroidery, requiring around 240 hours of work |
| Capucines BB Holiday | Draws on a drawing Haring made in Naples in 1983, with interconnecting dolphins and human figures |
| Capucines MM Genesis and Valisette Genesis | Inspired by a 1930s Louis Vuitton suitcase that Haring customised in 1984 with his Radiant Baby figures |

When will the Keith Haring Capucines bags be in stores?
The Keith Haring Artycapucines collection will be available in Louis Vuitton stores worldwide from 1 January 2027, according to Schön!. Art Basel Paris was a preview, so anyone reading about the booth in October was looking at bags that would not reach stores until the new year.
Was the Taipei exhibition about Artycapucines?
No. The Taipei show was Louis Vuitton's annual rare leathers and haute couture exhibition, a separate event from the Artycapucines retrospective. According to TRENSSE, it ran from 21 to 27 October 2026 at the InterContinental hotel in Taipei. Because the two overlapped by a few days and both featured the Capucines, some coverage has blurred them together.
The Taipei exhibition had its own focus. TRENSSE reports new limited-edition leather finishes for the Capucines, Side Trunk, Pochette Rose des Vents, Keepall and Speedy P9, along with custom pieces from the house's Paris atelier. The pieces included a limited Capucines Mini in tweed made with more than five yarns, and another Capucines Mini inspired by the Art Nouveau windows at the family home in Asnières. The house mascot Vivienne also appeared, as a backpack.
The simplest way to keep them apart: Paris was about artists, and Taipei was about materials and atelier work.
The Capucines underneath: a name from Rue Neuve-des-Capucines and about 250 steps
Most recaps of the Art Basel booth skip the bag itself, which is a shame, because the Capucines is why the series works. It is a structured, restrained design, and that restraint gives an artist something to push against.
Why is the Capucines named Capucines?
The Capucines is named after Rue Neuve-des-Capucines in Paris, linked to the first Louis Vuitton store, opened in 1854. According to TRENSSE, the bag itself launched in 2013. A bag that young carries a name that old, which suits a house that likes to place new work in a long line.
How much handwork goes into it?
Each Capucines bag goes through about 250 production steps, including turning the body by hand and fitting the leather handle, according to TRENSSE. That figure applies to the bag before any artist touches it. Add hand-set crystals or hundreds of hours of embroidery, and the Artycapucines pieces start to look less like accessories and more like commissions.
Do art bags work as everyday bags?
Some do, and some are plainly made with an occasion in mind, and which you want depends on your life more than on the bag. A silver-toned evening bag covered in crystals, or a design that needs around 240 hours of embroidery, invites a particular kind of evening: a gallery opening, a wedding, a dinner where the bag is part of the conversation. That is a reader's choice, not a judgement on the pieces. Plenty of women own bags precisely for those nights.
The practical question is how often you would carry it. An art bag asks you to plan an outfit around it. It is a strong opinion, and strong opinions are wonderful in the right room. In a Tuesday routine of meetings, school runs and a train, most women reach for something quieter that goes with everything.
There is also the question of mood. A bag with a point of view can feel exactly right for a season and then less like you the next. That is not a flaw in the bag. It is how taste moves.
Bringing Louis Vuitton into your rotation
If the Artycapucines retrospective left you wanting more Louis Vuitton in your life, the most useful way to think about it is in two halves: pieces with a strong point of view, and pieces that are easy to carry often. A rotation lets you have both without committing to either forever.
Pieces with a point of view
Artist collaborations have a history at Louis Vuitton well beyond Artycapucines. The Murakami Neverfull is one of the best known: a practical tote that became a collector's object.

A bag like this is the everyday cousin of the art bag. It is a tote you can actually fill, but it still announces itself.
Pieces you will carry often
For the days that need a bag to simply work, the quieter Louis Vuitton shapes earn their place. The GO-14 MM brings softness and craftsmanship to an everyday bag. The Twist MM in two-tone Epi leather, Camel and Light Nougat, has the LV Twist lock and a removable top handle, so it moves from hand-carry to shoulder to crossbody. The Pochette Métis is the everyday icon that does it all.

How renting changes the question
Renting lets you match the bag to the season rather than to the next decade. With Saclyn you can reserve a bag for a week, a month or a season, or keep rotating through membership. The bag arrives the day before, returns are prepaid both ways, and you can cancel anytime. How membership works covers the details, and the Louis Vuitton closet is the place to browse.
If you are unsure which half of your wardrobe needs filling, Margaux, our personal AI stylist, can read your taste in a short chat and suggest whether a statement piece or a quiet workhorse makes more sense for the months ahead. And if you are weighing ownership too, our guide to Louis Vuitton prices in Paris vs the US explains what shapes the numbers.
